This report aims to clarify how the methods of measurement in the drafting method of The Tailor's Guide by C. Compaing and L. Devere were interpreted and received in men's clothing technique manuals of the early Meiji era, through its translation, “A Teacher's Guide to Western Sewing.” Based on C. Compaing and L. Devere's book and the original book by G. Compaing, improvements in the process and features of the measurement charts, measured items, and the graduated measurement techniques were shown. The sources of The Tailor's Guide were tailors in France, and their techniques were reaching maturity. In particular, the selected measurement items and the graduated measures were the cornerstones for the improvement of clothing designs from individual sizes to a general-purpose design. In men's clothing technique manuals of the early Meiji era, the techniques of The Tailor's Guide were partially used, but were not accompanied by the knowledge and technology required to introduce them fully. The Tailor's Guide was positioned as a textbook aimed at introducing techniques to the general public.

Genetic information and living environment are related to the development of lifestyle diseases, important factors to consider in health management and disease prevention. We gave classes so that high school students could understand the information and apply the knowledge to their lives. Furthermore, we evaluated the effectiveness of home economics classes which incorporated genetic information based on the change in the students' consciousness.

Before the classes most students had insufficient understanding of genetic information, but their fundamental understanding and interest in genetic information increased as a result of the classes.

They understood that it is important to improve genetic factors such as lifestyle and disease prevention as well as environmental factors. In addition, they became aware of the importance of home economics lessons for learning about health management and disease prevention.

It was suggested that classes incorporating genetic information in home economics are both meaningful and effective as an opportunity to learn how to apply scientific knowledge to students' lives.

We conducted a questionnaire among mothers about the relationship between fathers' attitude to life and school-age children's life skills.

It became clear that the parents' relationship and the life skills of children are related, and that the children with a high level of acquisition and practice of life skills were the result of frequent communication between their parents, according to the mothers. It was suggested that it is important that the relationship is such that parents communicate well together in order for children to master and practice their life skills.

In addition, there was a relationship between the age of the fathers and the children's life skills. The younger the fathers, the higher the level of the children's life skills.

Furthermore, the degree of childcare rearing and cooperation by the fathers was related to the children's life skills, according to the mothers. It can be inferred that it is important for fathers to cooperate positively in raising children in order for children to master their life skills. Moreover, even if fathers cannot be directly involved in raising children because of pressure of work, it was suggested that mothers might see this in a positive light.
