Abstract

Genetic information and living environment are related to the development of lifestyle diseases, important factors to consider in health management and disease prevention. We gave classes so that high school students could understand the information and apply the knowledge to their lives. Furthermore, we evaluated the effectiveness of home economics classes which incorporated genetic information based on the change in the students' consciousness.

Before the classes most students had insufficient understanding of genetic information, but their fundamental understanding and interest in genetic information increased as a result of the classes.

They understood that it is important to improve genetic factors such as lifestyle and disease prevention as well as environmental factors. In addition, they became aware of the importance of home economics lessons for learning about health management and disease prevention.

It was suggested that classes incorporating genetic information in home economics are both meaningful and effective as an opportunity to learn how to apply scientific knowledge to students' lives.
