Katsushika Hokusai is one of the most famous Japanese painters in the world. “The Great Wave at Kanagawa” is a work from a series of “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji” recognized as one of his most important works. This paper is devoted to investigating the composition of “the Great wave at Kanagawa” in the geometrical view point. It is well-known that it seems to be derived from “Oshiokurihatoutuusen-nozu” by comparison with their motifs. We first study the similarity of them using the special method of Hokusai, the so-called “Mitsuwari-hou”, which is described in “Hokusai-manga” written by himself. Moreover it is shown that there exists a golden rectangle in “the Great Wave at Kanagawa” which plays the pivotal role of the composition.

The computer graphics education using the design method by constructing design elements is definable as the educational curriculum to develop a complex art by composing simple design elements, such as color, form, composition, texture, and related low ranked design elements. In this paper, to pay attention to ‘the design method by constructing design elements’, I tried to evaluate the result of the implementation of the graphic education using the design method by personal computer. Students became to product their works in a shorter time because of constructing design elements easier in a personal computer. Though the score of student evaluation system is relatively high, some of students' works tended to be toneless and sloppy. It is observed the increase in the education effects to prevent sloppy works by giving students an assignment by trial-and-error method.
