The paper aimed to introduce a viewpoint of 'gender equality' on workshops of community design in rural planning so as to empower women's participation in chances of decision making that is considered less compared with their social important roles. Two cases of workshop concerning community design were chosen to discuss the significance of women's participation, one is to produce ideas making use of local resources to revitalize rural society, the other to design a community park in a suburban area. The author traced the process of discussion in workshop programs and analyzed the distinctions and the meanings of women's opinion. The conclusions are as follows: 1) women's participation should be promoted in order to enhance effectiveness of community design workshop; 2) a prior research on social conditions of the very community is needed as well as making precious programs and appropriate management of the workshop.
