In this paper, the author defined the structural and constructional characters of the first headquaters office, built in 1899,Yawata Steel Works, using documents possessed by the works and the survey on site. The results are as follows : the structre is brick, popular English bond, but the building is divided into small sections by brick partitions, keeping stability. The special character is the half circle arch foundation which is very rare, and the upper parts of opening have a same circle head. These treatment would be to get structual satbility. The constructional features are no so special, having a similarity of Meiji era architecture, but simple details are existing in the underwork of columns ornament plastering.

We investigated how many housing societies were formed in Japan. The data we used are every prefectures' number from "NIHON-SHAKAIJIGYO-NENKAN" and 163 cities' number from "NIHON-TOSHI-NENKAN". Many housing societies were organized in 6 main cities (TOKYO, YOKOHAMA, KYOTO, NAGOYA, OSAKA, KOBE) and in some major provincial cities have a large population(SAPPORO, KURE, FUKUOKA, YOKOSUKA). The following three features are obtained. (1) There were many applicants in the Kansai district at first. (2) There were many societies in some cities influenced by earthquake. (3) Some munitions industrial cities were increasing in number of societies from about 1937 when the China Incident happened.

The space order of the divided houses in the west district of Amami-ohsima were analyzed on following 2 conceptions. The conception of counterpart consisted of 3 notions, the notion of holiness-impurity between "toko" and "nandon", the notion of formal-informal between "omote" and "nesho" and the notion of upper-lower between "wiya" and "shahya" were shown through the analysis of the space order of the houses. The conception of directional aspect consisted of the notion of life-death between "the east" and "the west" and the notion of hatefulness were shown through the analysis of the aspect of the houses.

The purpose of this study is to make clear the architectural concept of a French modern architect R.Mallet-Stevens. What was the most important for him was to match his architecture to the times in which he lived. He was willing to adopt decorative elements, such as le vitraux blanc (white stained glass), if they were original and creative. He regarded his architecture as a geometrical sculpture. He did not provide any clear reason for his concept, but it is sure that the figure he created has realised the strong contrast of light and shadow, which he loved.

The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate that the works of Mies van der Rohe have similar geometrical characteristics to those in Jay Hambidge's theory, "Dynamic Symmetry". It has been said that there are squares and golden means in Mies' works. Some of his works were explained by compounding squares. In this paper, we analyzed the Hubbe House from a viewpoint of dividing the square geometrically, not compounding it. As a result, we found the proportion of the arrangements of its many elements identical to those in the square divided by Hambidge's method with irrational numbers. Although "Square" and "Golden rectangle" are old concepts and figures being used from ancient times, Hambidge reconsidered them with biology and developed the original theory for beauty of proportion. The house is designed with the basic square form, but there is a modern geometrical beauty of Dynamic Symmetry in its shape.

Sun ultraviolet radiation is increasing by the destruction of the ozone layer. The increase of solar ultraviolet radiation may be cause the skin damage. Especially middle wavelength ultraviolet radiation injures the skin. Beach umbrella is used on the beach to prevent the sun ultraviolet radiation in midsummer. Direct component of sun ultraviolet radiation was taken into consideration when the shade was designed. But, sky component of ultraviolet radiation is bigger than the sun direct component. So, ultraviolet radiation can't estimate precisely if the sky component isn't taken into consideration. In this research, the ultraviolet radiation under beach umbrella was calculated with sun direct component and sky component. Using calculation and measurement results, shade space and shade efficiency is obtained.
