Abstract
In recent years, multiple chemical sensitivity and sick building syndrome have become social problems. Formaldehyde products, which have conventionally been used in dentistry, have been identified as the most significant cause of chemical sensitivity and sick building syndrome. Currently, there is no legal enforcement of formaldehyde control, although the government, schools, and professional associations are pushing for stricter regulation of formaldehyde. In addition, the general public and medical professionals should be further educated about the actual damage caused by formaldehyde and the health problems it can cause.
This paper reports on the biohazardous effects of formaldehyde products in dentistry, with the aims of informing dental professionals of the dangers of formaldehyde products and eliminating their use in dental clinics.
