Lights enable people to see things, allowing us to lead lives filled with richness. Illuminations can dramatically expand the possibilities of our activities in terms of both space and time. Additionally, light greatly contributes to the way human experience a space. There are two illumination design techniques: hiding illuminations so as to improve the quality of a space, and showing illuminations to enhance our activities and sensibilities. This paper introduces these techniques while classifying them into specific methodologies with actual examples.

This article discusses how people share information and how they collaborate in a foreign-affiliated total engineering consulting firm, introduces actual illumination design examples, and considers qualifications required of an illumination designer.

Recently, the collaboration with the lighting design office has increased. Information necessary for the product development is in the custom-designed apparatus demand generated by an individual project. Product development and lighting effect verification technique of space because lighting program can be smoothly done.

An LED has advantages such as its energy saving, long lasting, mercury-free, and low ultraviolet qualities, and is attracting particular attention today as a light source for illuminations and has come to be popularized in the area ofindoor illuminations. Additionally, outdoor luminaires are designed in pursuit of development of new luminaires, free from any preconceived notions, by taking advantage of the characteristics of LEDs.
