Abstract
The Japanese Industrial Standards(JIS)related to tolerances include(1)the revised JIS B 0401-1: 2016 Geometrical product specifications(GPS)-ISO code system for tolerances on linear sizes- Part 1: Basis of tolerances, deviations and fits,(2)the revised JIS B 0401-2 : 2016 GPS -ISO code system for tolerances on linear sizes-Part 2: Tables of standard tolerance classes and limit deviations for holes and shafts, and(3)the newly established JIS B 0420-1: 2016 GPS-Dimensional tolerancing- Part 1: Linear sizes. The technical contents of these standards are similar to those of the old standards. However, the sentences of the revised and newly established JIS standards are difficult to understand and many terminologies have been changed, causing confusion in educational circles. In this report, examples of the effects of the revised and newly established JIS standards on other individual standards are examined for the purpose of pointing out the defectiveness of these standards and proposing the use of conventional correct terminologies.
