Abstract

This is an analysis of the contents of textbooks which students study in elementary, junior high, and senior high schools in connection with housing domain. In all, twenty five textbooks were used for this study. All were from the 2017-18 school year: two were used at elementary schools, three at junior high schools, and twenty at senior high schools (consisting of twelve focusing on “Home Basics,” seven on “Comprehensive Home Economics,” and one on “Life Design”).

I analyzed the percentage of housing domain in textbooks, the classification of the learning contents of housing domain in textbooks, keyword phrases in textbooks, and figures in textbooks. I discovered the differences between the priorities at each school level. Because Home Economics classes have a limited timeframe, it is important that teachers make their aims clear.
