Introduction of fault current limiter (FCL) is expected as a promising candidate of short-circuit current suppression method in electric power system. However, there is so far no FCL put to practical use in actual electric power system. The present report describes problems to be solved for application of FCL. The current state and trends of research and development of FCL are also reported.
