Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out distinctive features of the residential landscape preference of mountain village dwellers when it is compared with urban dwellers. The result of the analysis is as follows. In mountain village dwellers the preference for the Japanese traditional landscape is high and the preference for the contemporary western landscape is low when it is compared with urban dwellers. But the residential landscape preference of non-farming families and younger people in mountain village dwellers is close to the tendency of urban dwellers. This means that the mountain village landscape will change in future.
