Morphological, physicochemical, mineralogical and micromorphological properties of Argic Brown Forest soils distributed on Middle terraces in Kai city, Yamanashi Prefecture were investigated and classified. The results are as follows:
1) According to the Soil Classification System of Japan (2017), this pedon corresponds to Argic Calcareous Eutrosol. However, considering the previous lime fertilization, it should be classified into Thapto-red-yellow Brown Forest soil.
2) According to the Comprehensive Soil Classification System of Japan, First Approximation (2011), this pedon corresponds to Fine-textured Argic Brown Forest soil.
3) Based on WRB 4
th edition (2022), this pedon corresponds to Haplic Luvisol, Clayic, Cutanic, Differentic.
Therefore, it was clarified that Brown Forest soils with clay coatings and clay accumulation could be formed on stable Pleistocene terraces in Japan. These might correspond to Sols lessivés or Parabraunerde in central Europe.
