Metal bond, resin bond, vitrified bond, electrodeposition, etc., are used as methods for manufacturing of diamond tools of various shapes. To manufacture tools with greater fixing force of the diamond grains, a laser melting system was developed in which the surface of the base metal is melted with a laser and the diamond grains are fixed to the melting part. In this study, the diamond grains fixed with the laser-irradiated part of the base metal were examined and the relations between the laser irradiation conditions and the fixed diamond grains were clarified. The diamond drill tools were trial-manufactured using this laser melting system. Drilling experiments were carried out on soda glass using the diamond drill tool. The results indicated the applicability of the tool.
