Abstract
The most of the characteristics of Bacillus B3 are very similar to those of Bacillus B1 investigated previously, but Bacillus B3 is different from Bacillus B1 and Bacillus B2 reported previously, because, the former requires promotively mevalonic acid, and ferments fructose hardly in CO_2-atmosphere, but can in N_2-atmosphere in a medium without mevalonic acid. Bacillus B3 seemes to produce mevalonic acid-like substance more simply than mevalonic acid in CO_2-atmosphere, because it ferments fructose hardly in CO_2-atmosphere. The catalase reaction on Bacillus B4 is positive, therefore, the Bacillus B4 is taxonomically peculiar. The most of the characteristics of Bacillus B4,except catalase reaction are very similar to those of Bacillus B1,B2 and B3,but the former does not require mevalonic acid and requires promotively peptides. The peptides required for the growth of Bacillus B3 and B4 are sensitive to heat, but those by Bacillus B1 and B2 resist to heat. It is proposed that both Bacillus B3 and B4 are the new varieties of Bacillus B1.
