The toxemic pathological changes in rats experimentally induced by placental poly-saccharide-like substance were remarkable when thiamine was deficient. Thiamine content of blood in toxemic patients, was low in all cases and urinary excretion of the vitamin decreased in mild cases, while increased in severe cases.
