Abstract

Silicon powder was spread on the surfaces of CP Titanium plates and reacted with titanium by CO₂ laser irradiation, forming silicide layers 600μm or thicker on the plates. Most alloy layers consisted of Ti₅Si₃. The highest hardness was 10GPa, and abrasion loss was 50-60% less than that of pure titanium.
