Liver tissue reconstruction using tissue engineering techniques has many problems under the present conditions. One of the reasons is that we cannot effectively utilize knowledge about cell/scaffold/transplantation, which are main elements in tissue engineering, to engineer liver tissue. For the future development, integrated approach of culture and transplantation will be necessary. In this article, we introduce basic knowledge, interesting studies and our studies about each element of liver tissue engineering and describe our approach.
