The techniques to be described have been engrafted, some twenty-five years ago, on the procedure initiated by Dandy in 1919. They have been built upon the use of radiography as a means of providing a running commentary upon the progress of filling, and the establishment of a theory of filling, which was reproduced in vitro (Roberston, 1941, 1946, 1957).
