Abstract
This paper describes an accurate measurement of particle size ranging from 0.1mm to 10mm in diameter using an interference of two laser beams reflected from the surface of a spherical particle. A theory is derived on the basis of the geometrical optics, which predicts a relationship between the particle radius and the spacing of the spatial fringe pattern produced by the two reflected beams. The validity of this theory is clearly confirmed by experiments.
