Abstract
A case of mixed tumor of the skin (chondroid syringoma) occurring in the upper lip of a 68-year-old man is reported. The lesion was a painless mass measuring 10×10×7 mm in the left side of the upper lip. Ultrasound examination revealed a well-circumscribed nodule in the dermis. With a tentative diagnosis of benign skin tumor, the lesion was excised with a normal tissue margin and the defect was closed while taking care to ensure the symmetrical form of the upper lip under local anesthesia.
Histological examinations of the surgical material showed a proliferation of branching tubular and ductal structures, which were lined by two layers of epithelial cells, and chondroid or myxoid stroma. A pathological diagnosis was so-called mixed tumor of the skin (chondroid syringoma) .
As of 13 months after surgery, there is neither sign of recurrence nor esthetic or functional disturbance, and the patient is satisfied with the outcome of the operation.
