Abstract

As global interest in the urban planning concept of the “x-minute city” increases, with the aim of moving towards a car-free society, it is essential in Japan to create residential environments that offer high satisfaction in relation to the location of home. To do this, it is necessary to determine satisfaction in regions where life services can be reached within x minutes from home. Here, by using individual values as a focal point, we examined the directions and challenges in creating residential environments with high satisfaction by implementing the x-minute city,. An original survey revealed the following: 1) People who emphasize a work-life balance had the highest satisfaction with residential locations that provide access to commercial facilities within 15 minutes. 2)The use of cars for shopping by over 90%.
