This paper aims to clarify the features of landscape description in modern Kyoto by analyzing the sensory expressions in the 20 essays. Specifically, we extracted 589 expressions from the essays and analyzed the contents of the diverse and abundant sensory expressions, including visual expressions focusing on realism, color, or light and shade, somatic sensory expressions by tactile sense or hearing, subjective expressions related to the impressions, interest/pleasure, the projection of moods, and the perception of seasonal feelings, and associative expressions related to literature, history, and religious meaning. Moreover, by analyzing the co-occurrence relations of these sensory expressions, we recognized the tendency of the combination and the features of expressions with multiple sensory, mainly visual ones.
