Abstract
The energy consumption for refuse collection was analyzed considering the weight of viecles in order to evaluate in detail. Fuel consumption rate (Y) is expressed by an exponential equation (Y=a Xb) with the overall weight of viecles (X), a fuel consumption factor (a) and a fuel consumption index (b). By using statistics of transportation and so forth, the value of (b) was arranged to be 0.52 for the case of cargo transportation. Using this value, and separating the collection process to (1) going-forth (2) picking-up (3) coming-back, the data of collection viecles in Ube city was analyzed. The value of fuel consumption factor a1 for simple run of (1) and (3) and the value of a2 for (2) including compaction and frequent stop and start were obtained. By using these factors and equations, the fuel consumption rate for each category of refuse can be estimated precisely. The additional study on the refuse collection efficiency shows that collection time per unit weight of refuse in the suburban area was 1.4 times larger than in the urban area.
