Abstract
Brake operating noise are caused by brake pipe vibration due to pressure pulsation of the ESC modulator pump, and pressure pulsation is amplified by standing waves in the brake pipe. The ESC modulator pump characteristics, which are difficult to calculate from the ESC modulator specifications, were experimentally identified using the “2 pressures/2 systems” method. Using the ESC modulator pump characteristics identified by this method, we developed the 1D model that can predict the standing waves in the brake pipes.
