Abstract
A shock absorber damps vibration and generally converts the energy to heat. With an electromagnetic suspension which has an electric motor, the vibration energy can be converted into the electric energy. Because the amount of the absorbed energy depends on the damping of the suspension system, the damping control by the active suspension makes the energy saving control possible. In order to clarify the relationship between the velocity feedback gain and the energy consumption, the numerical simulation and experiment with an actual electromagnetic damper were operated. The experimental results demonstrated that the electromagnetic suspension system can improve the properties of the sprung mass without consuming energy.
