Abstract

The authors have been studying non-contact hybrid brakes with combining eddy current brake and magneto-rheological fluid brake as the next generation brakes for aircraft. This paper deals with measure the brake torque using a cylindrical magneto-rheological fluid brake experimental machine and evaluated the shear stress and time constant characteristics. The shear stress increased when the particle size of the magneto-rheological fluid was small.
