Abstract
This paper deals with the problem of designing a flexible production system by the simultaneous introduction of component part commonality and production planning procedure. This paper supports the choice of a production planning policy for a two-stage process, analyzing the relationship between the component part commonality and production planning procedure in terms of the manufacturing performance. The simulation results have quantitatively clarified that the component part commonality can decrease the ratio of setup time and the buffer inventory level required.
