Abstract
The purpose of this research is to clarify Roles of museums in local developments through the training of civic organization. We compared and examined HIRATUKA city museum and NODA city museum. We found that the regional museum contributed to the revitalization of the rural community in two ways:
1. Rediscovery of regional resources and their use, and
2. Using special exhibitions to organize activities for citizen participation
These contributions were only made possible by good management of ideas and methods and highly motivated curators.
