Abstract
In this study, we proposed a rural consolidation method of planning making use of the traditional rural landscape of terrace fields in Shirotori town, a typical mountainous area of Gifu Prefecture. We examined the actual conditions of rice terraces and rural resources which formalize rural landscapes. we also conducted a survey on residents opinions in connection with this consolidation planning. As a conclusion, we presented three conceptual areas classified as “village area”, “field area” and “mountain area”. These areas were linked by farm roads and management roads along irrigation canal.
